Expat-poëzie

Iron Curtain

Welded across eastern borders
It never appeared
In military magazines
Or in Home and Garden sections
Of top department stores

Spies and double agents
Ghosted through secret cracks
Like Doctor Who
Tumbling through time
It didn't really exist, but could not be ignored

A fearsome construction
Solid metal sheets
Of pure paranoia
Collaborators coveted that cold steel
Agitators were ushered through back doors

World leaders often gathered together
Their chests covered in collections
Of shiny, metal, military decorations
Nothing compared to that curtain of iron
A fitting design for the Cold War

Watching TV with Mum

I don't watch much TV these days
Too much screen time feels like a waste
But when I sit and watch the news on TV with
mum
I blame everything on the Tories. She blames
Putin
