Notes - Walter Weems performed a blackface monologue in vaudeville and then became a screenwriter in Hollywood.
Contextual Notes - Charles "Tiny" Burnett was known for his popular orchestra leadership in the Orpheum Circuit vaudeville theaters here from 1915-1933. Over the years, Burnett amassed a large collection of souvenir photographs from the performers with whom he worked. Many of the photographs are studio portraits signed with fond notes by the performers, who range from novelty acts and circus attractions to opera singers and silent film actors.

Daniel Boone Tree Bark Carving

DESCRIPTION
A piece of tree bark into which is carved the name D. Boon, as well as other words and numbers. The markings are thought to have been made by Daniel Boone. The beech tree has the inscription, "D. Boon killed a bar. 1775" carved into it. The tree was located up until the 1880s near Boon's Creek, Tennessee.

Abstract - The Abijah and John Wesley Hunt daybook (dated 1796 July 2-October 1; 0.02 cubic feet; 1 item) documents a portion of the Hunts' second year in the mercantile business in Lexington, Kentucky.
Biography / History - John Wesley Hunt (1773-1849) was a general store owner that moved to Lexington, Kentucky, from Trenton, New Jersey, in 1795. The first millionaire west of the Allegheny Mountains, Hunt was considered to be a founding member of Lexington. He operated a store with his brother, Abijah Hunt, from 1795 to 1800 when Abijah moved to Natchez, Mississippi. The store, located on Main Street across from the courthouse, started as a general store, but Hunt soon expanded his business to include slave trade; horse breeding; land speculation; hemp and cotton manufacturing; banking; and insurance. Hunt served as the postmaster of Lexington in 1799 and built the Hunt-Morgan house in 1814.

Infeljenza

Vernietiging van een overtuigingsstuk.

Hierna verscheen in de bank der beklaagden de 46-jarige schoenmaker H. De B., wonende te Benschop, die op 11 Februari j.l. aldaar opzettelijk een stuk papier, gelijkende op een Bankbiljet van f 100, doch in werkelijkheid een stuk papier, waarop voorkwamen de woorden „Merk De Nederlandsche Bank", „Dit kistje bevat honderd sigaren. Amsterdam 1 September 1871", en welk stuk door den rijksveldwachter Jan Hordijk in beslag was genomen om voor de rechterlijke macht als overtuigingsstuk te dienen, daar beklaagde door dien beambte verdacht werd met dat stuk oplichting te hebben gepleegd, had beschadigd door het uit de handen van Hordijk te trekken, waardoor het in stukken scheurde. Beklaagde bekende het ten laste gelegde en verklaarde dat de geheele zaak niets dan een grap was geweest. Uit een aardigheid had hij den timmerman Kramer, bij wien hij in 't krijt stond, de „sigarenbon" in betaling gegeven, met de bedoeling om hem later attent te maken op deze beetnemerij, doch toen was hij ziek geworden, zoodat hij aan zijn voornemen geen gevolg meer kon geven, dan nadat de politie reeds in de zaak was gemengd. Hoe hij er toe gekomen was de sigarenbon uit de hand van den veldwachter te trekken, wist hij niet te zeggen. Hij meende, dat zijn doen een gevolg was van zenuwachtigheid door „infeljenza".
Het O. M. eischte tegen beklaagde 14 dagen gevangenisstraf. Mr. Jos. Van Raalte, beklaagde's raadsman, achtte de actie tegen zijn cliënt een mislukking en concludeerde tot vrijspraak.
