The Labyrinth Scored for the Purrs of 11 Different Cats

The labyrinth at Chartres is a unicursal path winding in 552 steps through 11 concentric rings into the center. In order to hear the sound of this path I have changed the steps into cats purrs. The 552 steps have become 5,520 seconds of purring, each step being equal to 10 seconds of sound. The 11 concentric rings then become 11 different cats, each cat representing one complete ring with all its steps. The stereo balance of the tape corresponds to the directional movement throught the labyrinth. The tape begins with 10 seconds of the 1st cat (ring), 10 of the 2nd, 10 of the 3rd, 10 of the 4th then turns left for 130 seconds (steps) of the 5th ring (cat), overlapping into the 6th ring for 140 seconds and so on winding through the labyrinth into the center which is represented by the simultaneous purring of all 11 cats.
The tape was completed in a live mix engineered by Bob Bilecki at Z.B.S. Foundation in Fort Edward, New York, using 5 prerecorded cats from San Francisco and 6 from Fort Edward in December 1976. Thanks to Tom, Patty, Boogaloo, Miriam, Puffin, Heba, Ferguson, Ernest, Samantha, Spat, Arthur and to the generous help of their "owners" both in SF and NY. This tape was supported in part, by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts.

Shout Art, as a structurally distinct artform, was created by the artist Henry Nigl during the early 1980's. As far as is known there is no other poetic or performance form like this. The format/structure of a 'Shout' is specific. A 'Shout' is typically non-ryhming, (but can be rythmical),double entendre with a conflicted, unexpected and abrupt ending phrase or word. Performance is a significant component of the form and often included props-both stationary and animated-and electronica (audio/video/projections). Music, as such, was provided by various automatic contrivances including oscillating fans tied to chimes and breeze driven curtains. The artist is still actively involved in this limited 'genre' and has recently produced five new performances.

Gecombineerde Mac OS X-update 10.5.8
Zorg dat je de ruimte hebt:
Tamelijk frustrerend als je net het nieuwe iTunes 9 hebt geïnstalleerd, naar de iTunes Store wilt gaan, de melding krijgt dat je daarvoor de nieuwste Safari-versie nodig hebt, die dan weer alleen geïnstalleerd blijkt te kunnen worden als je Mac OS X 10.5.8 hebt. Over Infinite Loops gesproken ...

iPhone-apps: ColorCanvas Basic
Met ColorCanvas kun je een foto uit je verzameling kiezen; die wordt dan in zwart-wit weergegeven, en vervolgens kun je met vingerbewegingen de kleur terugbrengen in de delen die je wilt. Als je een verkeerde beweging maakt, kun je het zwart-wit weer 'terugvegen'.
Natuurlijk kun je met een dergelijk programmaatje al snel in kitsch vervallen, maar het is wel aardig om even mee te spelen.

Red Heroine
Gisteravond in filmtheater Focus in Arnhem: Red Heroine, een zwijgende kungfu-film uit 1929, met live-muziek van het Devil Music Ensemble.
Tijdens de introductie werd al gewaarschuwd voor de ondertiteling ("The subtitles are crazy"). De openingscredits logen er ook niet om. Voor de naam van de vertaler stond Translat by.
Op de site van het Devil Music Ensemble vind je de speeldata van de European Tour 2009.
