Moderat’s formation began back in 2002 in Berlin, Germany when Sascha Ring (aka Apparat) and Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary (aka Modeselektor) recorded an EP for the record label Bpitch Control (”Auf Kosten der Gesundheit”). When it came time to begin working on an album, Moderat suddenly broke up.
Meanwhile Modeselektor set a milestone in German music history with their sophomore album, Happy Birthday!, including musicians such as Puppetmastaz, Maximo Park and Thom Yorke. Amongst a slew of remixes for the likes of Thom Yorke and Björk, Modeselektor also went on to tour with Radiohead across Japan in 2008.
Apparat, on the other hand, moved forward with his album Walls in 2007 (after his collaboration with Ellen Allien on ”Orchestra of Bubbles”), taking a musical path that was more band-oriented and kept him on tour for several years running.
2008 saw the reunion of this project and the three members of Moderat went back to the studio to continue working together and finally released their 1st full album ”Moderat” in April 2009. This is a monumental ‘audio-visual declaration’ album, which includes ten videos by Berlin’s highly regarded visualists Pfadfinderei.

Call to boycott Barbie with built-in camera
MATTEL'S trademark vinyl doll is getting older but she has embraced technology - Barbie's new built-in camera abilities are worrying some privacy advocates and psychologists.
The Barbie Video Girl doll has been criticised for enabling children to film themselves and others using a hidden camera in Barbie's necklace.
The doll, which retails for about $110, also has a small colour LCD screen in her back and the capacity to record 30 minutes of video, which can be transferred to a computer.
A clinical psychologist, Sally-Anne McCormack, said the doll had the potential to be used unwisely online and called on parents to boycott the product. "Essentially, it's a hidden camera," the mother of four said. "Children don't look at video clips the way that adults do, and there might be inappropriate shots that they upload onto YouTube."

In order to understand the organ, generations of scientists have pioneered increasingly sophisticated ways of examining it -- first by feeling its weight, shape, and color, then by cutting into it, magnifying its daunting muddle of cells, initially without much to tell them apart. And as they investigated the form and workings of the brain, neuroscientists have invented new ways of seeing. Our modern perspective relies entirely on technologies developed, or adapted, to scrutinize it -- chemical stains, state-of-the-art genetics, x-rays, MRIs, protein tagging. The resulting data reveal subtle variations in shape, intensity, and color, enabling scientists to pinpoint exactly what they seek to unveil and ignore the surrounding clutter."
