Do You See What I Hear?

Gelli Plate print of the iconic photograph of the Ethiopian Police Band on Washi paper. Multiple figures, appearing stylized and distorted, are depicted in various positions, as if in motion or engaged in some activity. The figures are rendered in a range of muted colors, including browns, tans, greens, and yellows, on a light beige to off-white background. The colors and forms create a mottled, textured effect, suggesting a layered or multi-print process. The figures appear to be superimposed or collaged onto a patterned ground, which is a repeated geometric design reminiscent of a repeating motif or pattern. The overall effect is complex, combining elements of abstraction, figure representation, and a variety of textural elements through the use of printmaking techniques. Onderwaternatuur (postzegelvel)

PostNL: De samenwerkende postbedrijven in Europa geven al meer dan 65 jaar postzegels uit met een gemeenschappelijk thema. Sinds 2002 is aan deze uitgifte een ontwerpwedstrijd verbonden: de EUROPA stamp best design competition. De competitie wordt uitgeschreven door PostEurop, de organisatie waarin alle Europese nationale postbedrijven samenwerken. Het thema voor de gemeenschappelijke Europese postzegeluitgifte voor 2024 is ‘Underwater fauna & flora’. Naar aanleiding van dit thema geeft PostNL op 13 mei 2024 het postzegelvel Onderwaternatuur uit. Op de postzegels staat de waardeaanduiding internationaal 1 voor post tot en met 20 gram met een internationale bestemming. De prijs voor een vel met 6 postzegels is € 10,50. Het thema ‘Underwater fauna & flora’ was oorspronkelijk vastgesteld voor 2023, maar schoof door omdat PostEurop dat jaar vanwege de oorlog in Oekraïne het thema ‘Peace – the highest value of humanity’ koos.

Traffic Policeman In British Era Calcutta, 1920 Photo

A 1920 photo of a traffic policeman in British Era Calcutta (Kolkata). The uniform says it all. A smartly turned-out Indian traffic policeman is topped with an umbrella, likely to avoid the city’s heat. This uniform has evolved into a more modern one since the colonial era. Similar to the Calcutta policeman, the Bombay police too had its uniform and rules during the British era. The Portuguese formed a basic law structure by the setting up of a Police department in Bombay.
